I can only answer for me, but if it helps you decide, here goes: I share what is on my heart regardless of what people think... but, I don't share things that are truly TOO intimate, private to our family only (and SHOULD be private)... I try not to complain or whine on my blog even though I feel like it sometimes... and even though I share the blues, the discouragement and difficulties once in a while, my primary goal is to share things that are uplifting... not just fluffy "positive thinking" nonsense, but genuinely uplifting, edifying and spiritually nourishing content. Sometimes fun and light hearted (we all need that), sometimes serious, sometimes sad, sometimes personal. Whatever I feel like sharing as long as I know God is not saying "no" to it.

Thanks Brett, I am pretty new in the Blog world, my friends tell me I have alot to share as we are fostercarers, adoptive parents and parents of SN kids.......but I see us as just every day folks, are people really interested in everyday folks ?? Is there stuff that you shouldn't share on your blogs, can you share to much doom and gloom, can you share to much mundan everyday stuff???
I often go to write a blog post and think......hmmm with this really interest people, should I be prejudging my blog readers like that........I am finding that I am getting all caught up in only sharing important stuff (in my view).........Is it wrong to presume people will find our crazy routine and everyday life as boring as I do sometimes LOL........
Anyway I love this series its really helped me and I am suggesting it to friends,

Very well said! I hadn't thought about it this way, but you're right. There are so many sites competing for our attention. I tend to return again and again to those bloggers I feel like I have some sort of relationship with.

Thank you for the great post, Brent! I still remember how warm I felt when a blogger replied to my comment in an email. She now has over 1600 followers and over 1100 subscribers. I have no problem replying to my reader's emails since there aren't many of them. I used to reciprocate blog following when I had a handful of followers. Now I find it hard to do. I do read every single comment but I'm inclined to reply in a comment on the post rather than by email. All in all, it takes a considerable amount of time to build a great blog.

I do take the time with my commenters & reciprocate, never leaving insincere or multiple copy statements but ones that show I've read their content & want to encourage them in what they have shared. Great tips! I whole heartedly agree that paying attention to your core readers is what makes you gain more core readers. I try to comment on 25 or so blogs a day, so that others will know that I am not only making my own content but appreciating theirs as well. Thanks for the great tips!

This is a great post. Especially like the idea of responding to the comments you get. I try to do that as much as possible. Also like the idea of mentioning readers in your blogs. Good idea.
